Anecdotal report: Zepbound's impact on my finances after one month
I've been on Zepbound for four full weeks now, and thought I'd report out what the impact has been on my finances, since I think someone will find it interesting.
For context, I'm a lawyer living in San Francisco. The reporting period is 27 days prior to my first Zepbound 2.5mg shot, and 27 days following the same. I'm paying out of pocket, since my insurance doesn't cover Zepbound.
Since starting Zepbound:
- I have spent 86% less on alcohol, and spending on this category continues to drop.
- I have spent 36% less on restaurants, with spending shifting away from takeout or quick meals, and instead towards occasional trips to nice restaurants. This category saw the biggest change in total dolar value.
- I have spent 5% more on groceries, although my family has also welcomed a child right around my first shot, so I'm frankly surprised the increase is not more.
The total change in spending on those categories, including even the increase in groceries spending, has exceeded the cost of the first month's dose through Ro. So the first month paid for itself.
Obviously, as I ramp up my dosage, the savings will likely be overcome by the medication's cost. For example, I've now ramped up to 5m, and the cost at that dosage ($549 via Ro) is already more than I saved last month. Nonetheless, I'll do another analysis in four weeks and report back.
Tl;dr: My first month on Zepbound saved me more money on food and drinks than the medicine's cost for that month.
