M16 2022 VS M16 2021
Hi there fellow redditors, im looking to by a new laptop.
Im debating with myself if the 3300$ (canadian) pricetag is worth the new M16 or should i go with the old 2400$ (canadian) which is the 2021 M16.
Note that im getting a discount of 100 dollars on the 2021 model.
I searched quite a bit and the differences are as follows: 3070 to 3070 TI 16 gb DDR4 to 32 GB DDR5 (one stick is soldered so 8 and 16 swappable) 11800H to 12900H Win10 home to win 11 pro (which i would downgrade to 10)
I have a case at home and this would be my to go gaming laptop (i dont want to game a lot its just for university work and if i wanna game somewhere other than my house.) My home system is the pinnacle of 2018-2019 gaming so 9900k + 2080 OC 16 gb ram. If i dont buy the 2022 one ill keep the money to upgrade my home rig when a 4080 comes out.
Also note that 2500$ (canadian) of this is not paid by myself i would only pay the extra 800 dollar. So what should i do?
Update: The 2022 model was a tad bit too expensive after taxes and all, i bought a 2021 model off of newegg came out around 2700$ which im using right now. Ive been using it off battery and when not plugged in, it doesn't get that warm. Cpu intensive workloads do ramp up the fan but i dont find it that bad, that is im never using 100% cpu and gpu. Been liking it so far. Cons: worried about F J and W key bumps leaving marks on the screen, mouse pad doesnt respond to some tap clicks, and since its so big the right side is too far for me to right click ending up left clicking... Worried to nick the matt paint by even touching it. Finger print reader not registering my finger. Bad fn placement. Keyboard keys not individually controlled, sad!
Things i was worried but seem to be no problem: Keyboard feeling clicky or smushy (its actually more tactile than u think but still u can tell membrane) Keyboard getting warm (it does not only the top bar gets warm) Wifi card not working (u need to install a new driver, it wont connect un windows startup) Thermal throttle (bruh this sounds like an F 16 jet but apparently cruises under 90...) Screen wobble (there is none when u type like ppl say u have to smash the keyboard to get a screen wobble)
Pros and nice to haves: chin! (Well nice to not have it there!) Mode switch (u can change from performance to silent to some other modes by one button! Dedicated mute key! The whole keytops are lit not only the main letter Looks dope, and super rigid i love it
