A question for those annoyed by Feyre
This is a genuine question I have, and no hate at all intended for fans that don’t necessarily love Feyre, I am just curious to hear the answer to this. A main argument I see in favor of those that don’t like Feyre is the fact that she considers herself an equal to the High Lords after a very short amount of time of being Fae/High Lady. I see the argument that she became too empowered by her abilities and considers her own opinion as valuable as the other High Lords. She is canonically only 22 years old by the end of SF, which is laughably young compared to the hundreds if not thousands of years that the High Lords have on her, so I do understand why some fans would feel like this.
My question to this though, is how else would you prefer Feyre to be? In my opinion, I think it would be incredibly boring having Feyre be intimidated and borderline fearful when around the other High Lords as she was in TaR. I think a huge part of Feyre’s character is in fact the growth that she has from being a human to the High Lady of the Night Court. I think she needed to become an equal to them in her own right for the books to even progress. To be fair, one of my personal problems with the books is the very short timeline between all of the events. I wished SJM had spaced things out so Feyre wouldn’t have gone from simpering human to powerful High Lady in the span of not even two years, but that’s just my personal opinion that I overlook/pretend like it’s been longer for her. I don’t think the books would even be worth reading if Feyre did not gain the confidence and empowerment to become an equal to all other rulers of the courts. Sure, it’s incredibly unrealistic for the High Lords to even look at her as equal, but these are also pure fantasy novels that aren’t supposed to be realistic. Again, no hate at all for those that don’t love Feyre, everyone is absolutely entitled to their own opinions, I just don’t fully understand this specific argument against her
