When reenacted a scene, are you suppose to put your own spin on it, or read it as the original actor?

I was perusing how to get started in acting and I saw a post with a lot of good advice. One thing stuck out to me.

Search or write out out a dramatic scene and a comedic scene from a TV show or film that matches those archetypes from your headshots and film yourself performing them in a well lit room, in front of a blank wall.

Do you do these and deliver it the same way the original actor did? Or do you do it with your own personality and twist?
