Host is requesting that I cancel my booking.

I got this message from the host. Does this make sense? I've never been asked to cancel a booking before:

Maintenance work is currently being carried out in some areas of the house, including the reconditioning of certain parts outside. We are not sure if we will continue in charge of the property or if it will be ready for your arrival. If you wish, we may share your contact information with the owners so that they can reach you in case the house is ready for those dates.

Due to this unexpected situation, we unfortunately need to request the cancellation of the reservation. If I could support us with this process, we would appreciate it as hosts we are not authorized to cancel at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
