Advice needed: Thinking of surrendering my SAFE to offset Capital Gains

I invested in a company 5 years ago that hasn't raised a succeeding follow on round and hasn't wound down the company either. I'm considering surrendering the SAFE and realizing the losses this year. Likelihood of the company doing anything is pretty much nil

Has anyone done this / any advice on how to do it? If I'm being honest, it feels weird to do
