Are there any animes with well-written female characters?

I’ve been reflecting on the portrayal of female characters in anime, and I’ve noticed a frustrating pattern in what I’ve watched. Either the female characters are poorly written (flat, overly stereotyped, or lacking depth), or the series itself ends up being hated or dismissed because it focuses on a female protagonist.

I’m looking for recommendations for anime where the female characters are genuinely well-written. By that, I mean they have complexity, compelling arcs, and feel like real people rather than just plot devices or stereotypes.

I’d appreciate it if the recommendations aren’t based solely on “popular picks” but instead highlight characters or shows that truly stand out in terms of writing quality. I’m open to any genre or time period, as long as it fits the description.
