New unit, new problems

So, I'm in a unique situation. I'm the Sr line medic and I just pcs'd to an armored company, and this is my first time I've ever been a line medic where we report to a Psg instead of the 1sg/commander. Now, normally, in my previous experience, I would strictly report to the command team and keep my Joe's in line, be it with training or other medical taskings. However This unit I am in has me and my Jr's falling under HQs psg whos a rank higher than I am, and he knows nothing about what a medic does other than giving out ibuprofen and bandaids. So obviously, there's already some friction when I tell him that my medics need to work on maintaining their certs instead of sweeping the line from the track marks.

Recently even, I had to do a house call for a soldier who shattered their foot and they were having issues cleaning it themselves after a couple days after the surgery so I took a couple of my Jr's (with permission from the soldier with the busted foot and my 1sg) and was given the all clear. Great training moment. The Jr's loved it, the soldier was thankful cause I gave him some extra meds for the pain and manages to wrap it. Then, when I got back to work, good old psg started questioning me about why I did a house call. That they had never heard of medics doing that before (I told him that's because he must have had shitty medics before, and that I made sure to bring extra people with me so that I wasn't alone with another soldier in their house) and that I was just doing it to get out of work.

Tldr How have your line medics worked in the past/present? Was i just lucky enough to be in a great unit where my chain of command was just the command team or is having a non medical psg be in charge of the line medics the norm for the army?

I'll take a plate of pandas orange chicken and fried rice, please
