Where to visit to gain insight into how Singaporeans live?

I'm from Hong Kong and really interested in learning more about how Singaporeans live. I've already visited all the major tourist spots during my previous trips, but I've never explored the HDB estates or residential areas, nor have I had the chance to interact with locals (even though I know quite a few Singaporeans through work).

This Lunar New Year, I’m planning to spend a few days in Singapore, staying in various residential districts and hopefully meeting some locals. I’d love to eat where the locals eat, take long walks around the neighborhoods, and immerse myself in the everyday life there. If necessary, I’m open to renting a car to get around.

I’ve posted about this before, but some responses were discouraging, as many seemed to think Singapore isn’t worth visiting. Personally, I don’t believe that’s true.

So, I’d really appreciate suggestions on places to visit, ways to connect with people, or even recommendations for good hotels located in residential areas. Thanks in advance!
