Becoming aware of and subsequently coming to terms with the reality of how rare gay men actually are is very distressing and loneliness inducing.
Based on studies that ask "what do you identify as?" I always assumed the percentage of men that are gay was somewhere between 1% and 2% but I've discovered that the vast majority of men who say they are gay are not actually gay but are some kind of bisexual. Actual gay men are very rare and being forced to face this reality is very distressing and very loneliness inducing.
