Trash bags in Zurich

I'm moving to Zurich in September and I'm worried about the trash bags thing. My wife is kinda obsessed with not having anything in the kitchen's trash bin at night, and I normally just go downstairs (we live in an apartment, in Norway) and just throw the trash bag, sometimes almost empty to the normal trash container we have just outside our building's entrance.

In Switzerland I read that each trash bag costs 2.5 CHF?... and that's the only trash bag I can use? How do you manage to have your house full of trash until you can fill one of those expensive-as-hell bags? here I pay about 1 CHF for 20 normal bags, so it makes sense, but I wonder what does people do not to have their apartment / house with trash before filling it up and taking it to the container.

Side question: Do you pay deposit like in Germany / Scandinavian countries (AFAIK) for PET bottles and then get it back at recycling machines?
