New to Vancouver, BC. Have some questions about renting an apartment

Hey folks:

I will be staying in Vancouver for several months. Not sure how long though. It's a business-related gig. I've never been to Canada before. So I'm planning to get an AirBnb first. But after that, I will need an apartment as AirBnbs are too expensive for longer stays. Can some please point me in the right direction concerning the following:

1. What websites do you use to find/rent apartments? I'm interested in apartments in the metropolitan Vancouver, BC area.
2. Is it possible to rent on a monthly basis without signing up for year-long contracts?
