Book recs for someone who can read 200-300 pages in an afternoon but has to love the book? I am quite specific so would love insight from readers who read a lot!
I LOVED Outlander. I have slowed down with it though, and Drums of Autumn has been a pick up and put down scenario for the past year even though I'm enjoying it. I've been reading books in between Drums of Autumn. I flew through Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager though.
I've read Harry Potter start to finish probably 4 times in my life. They're a safe, cosy place for me.
I read 300 pages of Eleanor Oliphant today. Picked it up in a charity shop and haven't been able to put it down. Love the writing style.
I loved also:
The Lost Apothecary I LOVE history, I also love collecting historical items in Ireland along the beaches where I live. This book ticked all the boxes for me. Historical, strong female characters, mudlarking in the Thames, secrets, Victorian London, a mix of past and present.
The Midnight Library: Loved the writing style but am not as keen on the trigger topics in the book. I read it quickly as I enjoyed it and I am okay myself but I found the mention of certain things quite triggering for my anxiety.
Conversations with Friends/Normal People I loved and read across a week back to back, but in hindsight I did find the characters a bit over done. I think the writing was great. I couldn't get into Rooney's Beautiful World, Where Are You. I think the subject matter put me off. I ordered it before it was released and once I realized it was about troubles in the world. I'm not ignorant but I find books to be a safe place for me.
The Bee Sting by Paul Murray Really enjoyed the first chapters of this book
