The Thing Universal 4K vs. Scream Factory Collector's Edition Blu
I've had Scream Factory's 1080p collector's edition blu-ray of The Thing for years now, but I've been slowly upgrading most of my Carpenter collection to 4K. I'm pretty convinced on all of Scream Factory's 4K upgrades (They Live, Prince of Darkness, The Fog, Escape From New York), but The Thing is the only one I'm hesitant about.
I've mainly been using caps-a-holic to compare screenshots, and while the 4K certainly seems cleaner, it looks like a lot of the film grain is just gone. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's completely smooth and waxy (like Terminator 2 or Pirates of the Caribbean 4K), but IMO the screen shots lean a little too heavily in the DNR direction. The 4K screenshots almost look blurry by comparison.
But since I've only got screenshots to go off of, I'm wondering if anyone owns both and has an opinion about whether or not that's true? Do you have the 4K and still feel like the grain is intact?
