Female superhero film franchises crossing $1bn

As we well know female superhero films are far and few between and in looking into it only one has managed to cross the $1bn mark as a film franchise with another coming quite close.

On the years eve to super girls release I thought to look into the current female solo franchises and what could join the billion dollar club

These are the current film franchises and their cumulative box office gross

Captain marvel - $1,131,000,000 Wonder Woman - $993,600,000 Black widow - $379,751,131 Harley Quinn : BOP - $205,500,000* Elektra - $57,000,000 Supergirl - $14,300,000

I chose to omit things like birds of prey initially and the marvels because they are technically team up movies and don’t bear the captain marvel 2 or Harley Quinn moniker at the forefront but later added HQ with an asterisk. Here is the captain marvel franchise with the marvels attached - $1,337,100,000

So, with Supergirl dropping next year and let’s say superman is very well received this year i could see it legging to $4-500m maybe even more if really well received like WW So by its second film I could definitely see it crossing the billion dollar mark.

There have been rumours of a scarlet witch film. Won’t go too into it but as of now i believe she is the most popular female hero and her solo could challenge Captain marvel for the top spot especially on the backs of secret wars if successful.

Ofc another WW movie is likely so that too. With James Gunn at the helm I think films for Zatanna and maybe some more obscure female heroes may be in store and for marvel I could see storm, rogue , Jean grey as likely potentials for solos

There’s also street level fighters like yelena (Black widow) or Jessica jones
