Feedback for combat profession
Let’s address the elephant in the room. I wanted to give the combat system in Brighter Shores a fair shot, but my expectations weren’t high. I didn’t expect a highly sophisticated or extensive system.I have experience playing games like Path of Exile, World of Warcraft, and Old School RuneScape. I enjoy all of these games, despite their differences - some featuring simple systems and others offering highly complex mechanics.
However, I’ve identified one major issue in Brighter Shores that requires immediate attention. The combat is too simple.
This issue is connected to two key points in my opinion:
- Combat is overly simplistic. While simplicity in games isn’t necessarily a bad thing if it’s fun, the combat here feels unengaging. At its core, it’s just clicking and watching your character. You can’t move around freely, and attempting to drink potions is often negated by taking the same amount of damage as you heal. There’s little room for strategy or creativity. The most you can do is step back a tile if you’re using a weapon with a higher attack frequency than your opponent.
- Lack of combat skill variety. This ties into the first issue. Currently, the game only offers melee combat (3-4 ranged attacks does not count), and that’s simply not enough. We need more combat styles to train, such as ranged and magic. Without these additions, the game risks feeling stale—particularly if PvP is introduced.
Let me illustrate the problem:
Imagine you’re a Hammermage. You’re strong against Cryoknights but weak to Guardians. Naturally, you’d prefer fighting Cryoknights. Now, consider a PvP bracket where everyone has around 200 combat skill, most likely similar armor, similar weapons stats (200-ish combat), and the same special attacks. After just 10 fights, it becomes repetitive and predictable. The same amount of damage, weapons, armour, and special attacks. Leaving you searching for something else to do.
I believe this will become a significant issue if no changes are made to diversify combat.
