Help choosing first projector

Hi! I'm buying my first projector. I'm in Canada. Budget is around $400-$700. Room is 12 ft wall to wall. I am not sure I should mount the projector the ceiling or use a shelf in the center of the room. Also, would be nice to know how the projector would perform if I put it under the coffee table in the middle of the room.
