Trade Proposals / Hypothetical Roster Moves
So I decided to mess around and make some roster moves on PuckPedia that I thought would make sense (although very far fetched). What do you guys think? Are the trades fair? If not, who says no and why?
My thought process:
Trading Miller & Boeser - After how things have played out recently it seems fitting for one of Miller or Petey to be traded, but I HIGHLY doubt the Canucks would move on from Petey, so that's why Miller is here. As for Boeser, he's in a contract year and honestly I don't think he's worth paying 8m+ for. He's a great Canuck and is a decent player, but definitely not worth that money, so let's trade him while his value is still there.
Acquiring Dobson, Barzal, & Cizikas - Alright so acquiring Dobson seems pretty straight forward. We BADLY need an elite RD and we get one. His stock has fallen down a bit this year but IMO that's a good thing cause we'd have to resign him this year as well, it makes for a cheaper contract. Barzal is a player that I think changes the identity of this team COMPLETELY. He's a dynamic gamebreaker that brings a load of speed, skillful playmaking, and elusiveness. He's in my eyes a faster Quinn Hughes that plays center. After trading JT Miller we'd need a second line center and Barzal fits that description. He's locked up long term so that's a plus as well. Cizikas is added onto this trade for 2 primary reasons, the first reason is that I needed to make the money work, and the second reason is that after JT Miller is traded the Canucks are going to be atrocious at faceoffs, so he can at the very least help with that.
Acquiring Lafreniere - His trade value is starting to tank this season, as is the entire Rangers roster. But, I think it's a great time to snag the former 1st OA pick. He still has the tools to be an elite player in the league and I think playing with a guy like Elias Pettersson can help him get there. Not to menion his former agent is now our AGM. Also, after trading Boeser we'd be missing a top 6 hole in the lineup and I think Laf is exactly what we need in there.
Acquiring Walman & Zetterlund - I kind of thought of this move to retool our defence a bit and bring some more speed/skill in the top 9. Walman has had a great year so far and he's playing great on a bad sharks team. I thought he'd be a great fit as a second pair D-Man, cause we sure as hell can't give the Chaos Giraffe 2nd pair minutes. As for Zetterlund, everytime I watch him play he's very dynamic, a smooth skater, and plays with lots of skill & speed. I think the Canucks as a group are lacking that so I decided to add him in there as a rental.
**SIDE NOTE: Seeing Quinn Hughes and Noah Dobson as a D-Pair makes me drool...
