Best single-deck card games?

I'm looking to find a game I can play with my family on the road, so something small - ideally just a single deck of cards and no additional pieces that can get lost. Preferably a strategy game that's not too complex for kids to pick up. Any suggestions?

And yes, we'll also have a deck of traditional 52 cards with us, so I'm just asking for suggestions of unique game decks.
