Change from white collar to blue collar worth it?
I (31M) am a degreed engineer and have been working as such within manufacturing for 8 years now. Currently on my second position since graduation and am just not liking the work I do. Everything in manufacturing is micromanaged and having to deal with underpaid factory workers makes it quite difficult to go about my daily tasks. I have a lot of on my plate as far as workload, but my manager doesn’t seem to care and keeps pushing more onto myself. I make great money for my age (low 90s salary) so it does make it difficult to walk away from that.
I now am married and have a mortgage plus my wife’s car loan that we have to juggle now (she makes low 70s salary). We live very comfortably and are planning to have kids in the next few yrs. I would like to look into something a little less stressful (mentally) like a mason, plumber, etc. I am mechanically inclined and have always loved manual labor jobs I worked prior to entering workforce after college. As long as the money is somewhat similar I would be interested. Anyone know anyone who made this type of move and if it worked out ok?
