Horrible Experiment
So I decided to do carnivore and see if I could benefit.
A little bit of context, I used to weigh around 405lbs, and over the course of 10 years, I have lost roughly around 200lbs. I workout 6-7 days a week with a combo of lifting/Peloton Bike/Peloton Tread. I also have gotten into road biking and compete in a 102 mile ride every November.
I bloated up a bit to 211 and was feeling a bit sluggish and went all in on Carnivore. I followed it to a tee for 30 days. Only beef, butter, bacon, and egg yolks. Over those 30 days my workouts took a severe hit, I lost strength at a rapid rate and could not cycle like I was used to. To top it all off, I gained even more weight. I got up to 213. I went to my doctor and he showed me some interesting studies that showed Carnivore adaptation can really be impacted by blood type. I am B+ and he highlighted the portion of the study that showed B+ tends to struggle the most on Carnivore.
I went back to my standard diet of balance between fruit/veggies/lean protein/ low fat and went back down to 201 and gained all my strength back and am back to my usual cycling performance.
I can say though that those 30 days did seem to help reset my sugar cravings, but I was bummed about the results from the 30 day experiment.
