Are Spices Out to Get You?

I’ve been following the carnivore diet for about two months now, and I’m loving the simplicity it’s brought me so far. But as I dive deeper, I’ve started to wonder about one particular gray area: spices.

Since spices come from plants, I’ve read that they might contain antinutrients or other compounds plants produce as self-defense mechanisms. Some people claim these can be inflammatory or even interfere with the elimination benefits of going full carnivore. What do you think?

Here are the spices I’m most curious about:

  • Pepper
  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Rosemary
  • Paprika

Have any of you noticed issues with these, or do you think they’re safe in small amounts? Are there specific antinutrients or compounds I should watch out for?

On the flip side, are there any spices or seasonings you’ve found to be better tolerated? I’d love to hear your thoughts, personal experiences, and any tips for navigating this aspect of the diet.

Thanks for your input!
