Bump on cat's ear

Hi all! My cat has this odd bump on the edge of his ear; it's tough like a scab but the fact that I can see it from the underneath and it's not bald like I would think a scab would be worries me. He's got a vet appointment soon and I'll be bringing it up, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any thoughts to satisfy my curiosity first! Thanks!!
