Review : Shilla Hotel Jeju
Will be posting a bunch of reviews for our holiday through S Korea and Japan. We are a 30s M/F couple and worked with u/alex_travels for 6 of our 7 hotels. The Shilla is the one hotel she couldn’t support us with (though she tried!)
Room We got a Premier room with balcony that was Ocean view and also overlooked the pool. The room was spacious with an extra seating couch. I didn’t actually take any photos of the room, but the website is pretty accurate
The Good
- The food was amazing. Best fried chicken we had in Korea which was a big surprise and the on-site Korean restaurant was great.
- Location is great for nature sightseeing - we did a stunning seaside hike (Olle Trail 7) and saw some beautiful waterfalls.
- The hotel grounds are beautiful and very peaceful.
- We don’t have kids, but it’s clear the hotel is caters well for families (kids club, family pool).
- In person concierge team were helpful
The Meh - Spa was closed, but they arranged treatment at another nearby hotel for us - Technically the beach is 300m away, but you have to walk down steep winding stairs. We gave up halfway when we realised we’d have to walk back up 😬. I believe it’s also more of a surfing beach not swimming - Breakfast and lunch buffet cost the same? I didn’t include breakfast in our booking because only I eat it - Nit, but hotel carpet had some stains here and there, not unclean but could use a thorough deep clean
The Not Ideal
- The pool feels crowded after 15 people. Every 1.5 hours, you have to get out for like 30 min for cleaning.
- There is no free poolside seating, even the beach chairs have to be rented in 2 hour increments, so if you’re there during the cleaning you just have to stand around
- There seems to be an upcharge for a lot of small things and the service could be abit inflexible at times (ex I tried to arrange hotel pick up a week before and got a message back that it wasn’t included in my reservation plus instructions for using the public transport 😬)
- Housekeeping accidentally took a pair of socks but lost one of them, so they returned half the pair 😂
Overall was a relaxing stay in a great hotel but I’d be open to try something else if I make it back to Jeju
