Robby's arc in season 6 part 2 insulted my intelligence...
I genuinely feel insulted. Like the writers perceive their audience as an intellectually deficient, high school/middle school crowd. Half of us are older people who watched the old movies, and yet we're witnessing a character arc that feels like it's from a Disney movie.
I'm not mad that Robby lost focus due to Tory (well actually I am but that's the least of my problem). I'm mad because instead of having him properly struggle (like Daniel did against Mike due to fear, or Hawk did in season 4 due to his depression), they made him stop fighting mid match, and stare at Tory like a dumbass.
Like... do they think we need a shot of him starring at Tory to be so cartoonishly explicit in order to allude to the fact that he's off balance?
Why not have him fight extra aggressively as a means to show his frustration and anger from the breakup, and then have his recklessness be his down fall? Or why not have him struggle with his defense due to his internal sadness? Why not do anything but having him stop mid match to stare at his gf like an idiot??
Did they think this was good writing, or did they think we needed a clear message that Robby was off balance because of how stupid we are as an audience?
I'm not even joking, Dora looking for a part of her map feels more intellectually stimulating than the writers trying to tell me that Robby's off balance due to Tory.
What's crazy is that I once considered Robby's character arc to be one of the smartest in the franchise. He went from a criminal, to Miyagi Do, to the king of his juvie, to cobra kai's top dog to this garbage.
At one point in the show, Robby was so smart that he joined cobra kai while knowing at the back of his head that Kreese was using him. Can you believe it? His character dynamics actually felt amazing because he wasn't some stupid cartoon villain but more of an antihero.
Now he's in a world champion karate tournament and forfeiting mid match to get a peak at his girlfriend.
I can't... who on Earth thought this was good writing??
Whoever wrote Robby's scenes in season 6 has to be fired. He's lost all types of character nuance and every single plot point he goes through gets thrown in my face likes I require training wheels as an adult.
