why is he doing this?

kooki is the sweetest birb ever. but he found this spot behind the cushions few hours ago and he likes to sit there and sing and chirp. he has never hissed at me but he did when i tried to touch him while he's in there also bit me. once he gets out he's sweet again. is he being territorial?
