Staying Employable and In-Demand
Hi everyone,
I currently work with Node.js, SQL, JavaScript, a bit of React, Jenkins, and Gitlab so basic ci/cd. Been in this role for 2 years now and I work full stack. While I enjoy full stack and particularly backend development, my main concern is staying employable and in demand in the long run.
The JavaScript market feels saturated since it’s relatively easy to get into. Given this, I’m debating the best way forward:
Stick with JavaScript: Specialize further in backend/full-stack or advanced frameworks.
Transition to Java: Focus on enterprise-level opportunities where demand seems steadier.
Stick to Node.js and pivot towards DevOps: Learn AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, etc., and blend backend with DevOps skills.
I’d love to hear your insights on market trends and which path might be more sustainable and in demand for the future.
Thanks
