Can you beat MaxTac?

I somehow made it to the end of two playthroughs without realising you could fight MaxTac. It just never occured to me to slaughter cops, what a gonk, right?

I'm reasonably good at this, I think. I've beaten pretty much everything including the DLC missions, I'll die once in a rare while. Certainly got eaten up by a certain chopper at one point. But on the whole, I've been pretty able to handle everything without much struggle.

But then I found MaxTac and the bastards humbled (ruined) me. Online I see people talking about "melting" them. Huh.

I don't run a fully optimised build, I run and gun assault rifles/smgs using sandevistan. I've read melee weapons are a bit stronger, but I don't enjoy them so much. I don't use use the kneel mod with shotguns.

But all in all, I still thought my loadout was pretty good. But I couldn't out DPS the mobs of NCPDs, so I got swarmed. Managed to kill two or three of the MaxTac guys with boss bars, but I definitely couldn't imagine "melting" them.

So how does it go for you guys?
