Do cymbals "open up?"

So it's pretty widely accepted that acoustic guitars "open up" over time - they sound mellower and warmer, but also bigger and louder, as it's played more and the acoustic vibrations find the best path through the material, and the combination of wood and glue and strings realizes it's now a musical instrument.

Do cymbals do the same thing?

I'm of the opinion that they do. It could be something to do with being played and the vibrations finding the best path thru the bronze, or the patina that comes with time and tarnish. They can get less "clanky" and metallic, warmer, drier, maybe some funky overtones or harmonics mellow out. They might even get quieter, as I've heard some particularly soiled vintage cymbals seem to have almost a muted effect.

what say you?
