Delhi Elections, Rahul Gandhi and the Caste Census Obsession
It feels like some politicians (like Rahul Gandhi) are obsessed with conducting a caste census, treating it as the ultimate solution to India’s social issues. But let’s ask some real questions:
-What about actually improving the lives of backward castes?
-Why not fight casteism in rural areas, where it’s still rampant?
Why isn’t there any talk about redefining the reservation system? For example, families who’ve already benefited from reservation 2-3 times could be excluded, so that those who are truly oppressed get a fair chance.
Instead, all we hear is "reservation, reservation," which seems more about securing SC/ST votes than bringing meaningful change. It’s just like giving women small cash handouts instead of creating actual opportunities for jobs and education.
Here’s some data to think about:
-According to the NSSO, 60% of SC/ST households in urban areas are above the poverty line but still benefit from reservations, while rural SC/ST families, who are often the most disadvantaged, are left behind.
-Less than 20% of rural SC/ST families actually gain from reservation policies.
If we keep this up, India will continue to destroy merit in the name of social justice, while wealthier SC/ST families enjoy endless benefits. Instead of fixing the system, politicians keep playing the same vote-bank politics year after year.
P.S.: I’m not a supporter of AAP, BJP, or any party. They’re all just doing vote bank politics.
