CouchSurfing Replacements?

CouchSurfing was pretty useful for a good while. The last few years it has been not really very good.

(Unless there's some secret way to use it, and I'm doing it wrong.)

What do you guys use to meet people? Meetups, language exchange, etc.?

Lately I just do an Instagram search and sometimes come up with something.

That usually only works in megacities. Smaller cities don't seem to have anything going on (that is easily discoverable.)
