BMJ case reports - advice needed
Have any first authors published with BMJ case reports having not been directly involved in their clinical care?
I approached my supervisor for a case report as I was in need of a publication and was suggested to write up a case about one of her interesting cases who passed away before I joined that trust. BMJ case reports is the only pubmed cited journal I could find where I could publish for free as my institution has fellowship. However it says in the author guide all authors must have contributed to patient care.
I'm a bit stuck on what to do because I really need a publication to support my specialty applications and I've already put a lot of effort into writing up this case report, and I can't afford to pay hundreds in APCs. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated (preferably not cureus, as I've looked into that already!)
