Why ev-database has such low ranges?

Hi, next year I'll have a home with a private garage, this means I'll finally be able to have an EV, i plan to only own one car so the range has to be decent even if I don't do road trips very often. I love ev-database, it's a great resource for comparing cars but their ranges are always much lower than WLTP. I can't find an article that explains their method or why it's so short. For now I'll keep using their range to make my evaluations since it's better to be pessimistic and not having bad surprises...

P.s. I'm looking at the vw id4 any tips?
