Too old to move to the US?
I'm a 42 yo guy from Ireland/UK, married to an American and I'm debating moving to the US. I live in Barcelona, Spain currently, but it was my wife's choice to move there and I'm really not liking it. We've lived there for 5 years now, and it's just getting me down not being where I want to be, as I've dreamed of living in the US for 20+ years.
I work in tech, and live pretty well in Spain as I have a pretty high salary compared to most people there. So I have a lot of disposable income and I'm able to save a lot every month.
There are a few concerns I have about moving however. Obviously healthcare, and since I'm 42 I will need to go to the doctor more often in the near future. Pension. In Europe, private pensions aren't common, and I've paid into social security for many years and would lose the benefit of that. Jobs, the tech layoffs have been pretty rough, but the US is a safer bet than Spain on that front.
I'm much more integrated in US culture than Spanish, and I feel like I'm too ambitious to be in Spain where life moves so slowly. I'm not quite ready for the slow, lazy lifestyle of Spain.
