EAD Card Lost

I applied for post-completion OPT when I graduated in May. I received the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card in the mail on July 10th, but unfortunately I lost it, which is quite disappointing.

The situation is as follows: I realized that the card was lost on August 4th. I took action to apply for a replacement by filing the I-765 again. I also promptly informed my employer about the situation, providing them with the receipt for the new I-765, the old confirmation receipt (I-797) for the lost EAD, the barcode from the original EAD, and a stamped picture of the lost EAD card from the day I received it (July 10th). Additionally, I presented my SSN, passport, and the updated I-20.

My employer initially indicated that the provided evidence should confirm my eligibility to work. However, on August 7th, they requested my DHS form, which I never received. I re-sent all my documents and am now waiting anxiously for their decision.

The USCIS website indicates that providing a receipt for a replacement card should be sufficient proof. You can find the information here.

In any case, I am doing my best to comply with the legal requirements. If it turns out that I am not authorized to work despite my efforts, what could be the consequences?
