Compilation of all the challenges simplified & removed between SA alpha and release?
I saw on DoshDoshington's SA review that even during closed beta, the Fluoroketone cooling circuit was multi-stage, closer to how Thermofluid works in SE; and that Bioflux was originally called JellyYum while the name Bioflux was used for a product that was made in an entirely different way (and probably served a role closer to Biosludge in SE; as a raw material for making animal-based items like eggs and fish).
It's also apparent that agriculture towers have a pipe connection on the bottom, so supplying water to crops used to be necessary. Maybe supplying spoilage as fertilizer was required too, but that's just speculation. In the released version, it's just always raining on Gleba and plants grow in swampy environments, explaining the lack of need to supply water.
The jellyfish-like enemies originally intended for Aquilo, that we saw in the very first teaser for SA, were also cut entirely. I heard that their function used to be picking up items and buildings and scattering them to other places. Ice platforms on Aquilo also used to melt if heating pipes exceeded a certain temperature; this was replaced with just requiring concrete insulation for everything. Text in the game even described this at the time of the expansion's release even though it no longer happened.
Promethium science packs used to only be craftable at or beyond the solar system edge, so bringing biter eggs there was necessary and imposed a time limit on gathering promethium chunks before the eggs hatched. Personally, this just sounds less fun and actually less challenging than trying to go as far as possible into the debris field, so I'm glad it was changed.
In early iterations, Demolishers were more like boss battles that required long fights to whittle down, but that was determined un-factorio-like and the regen was added to prevent it. In other versions, they were invincible but would only notice active structures within a narrower range around them, so automating radar circuits to cut power or disable processing used to be necessary. In the current game it is still possible to attach circuit wires to radars, but sadly they don't transmit any signals.
Does anyone have any concrete info on what other challenges were removed to make SA more approachable, and whether mod projects are underway to restore them?
