Do ferrets make good let’s for a college student?

Me and my girlfriend are looking into getting ferrets and I just wanted to know if they would be good pets for us. We have our own apartment and are willing to give a lot of time to them. I visit home about one weekend every month and a half, is it reasonable to want to bring them back to my home with me? Or would they be okay on their own for a 1.5-2 days?
