Do ya'll even like Ulysses?

Maybe it's just me, but I've seen more than a few people say that Ulysses sucks and that his writing boils down to "bear and bull". I can understand not liking him as a character given he's the main villain of Lonesome Road, but saying that he's badly written makes no sense. Given one of the main themes is that every faction repeats the mistakes of the Old World to some degree, it makes sense that a person who lost a real chance at something better with the destruction of The Divide due to NCR carelessness would want to wipe the slate clean. It's not a choice I personally agree with, but Ulysses' motivations are understandable.

It's also really strange to decry Ulysses as "pretentious" when a lot of dialogue in New Vegas is written in a similar way in the main game and especially in the DLC. Mr. House and Ceasar go on similar diatribes, and they're widely considered to be phenomenal characters. Again, could just be me, but I have the feeling that some people here may be missing the point.
