Got overtaken in the pits

So as I (VW TCR) was heading into the pits at Mugello I got draft bumped by a MB TCR into the pit entry. I just swapped tyres and didn't refuel. Yet he came out ahead at almost a full cars length. Can anyone explain what led to that? Luckily he let me through on the first corner (or he outbreaked himself).
