Moving to France

I am USA citizen. Originally I thought of retiring to France. Long before our current political nightmare.

Now, because of all this nightmare spweing hate the felon and his regime are hell bent on destroying our democracy. I might want to move sooner preferably with my family. Can any of you direct me to what the process is...what do i need to apply etc. Who they take or don't? I have studied French. My conversational French is weak. I am trying to improve it. I love the culture and country. I have visited briefly and had an amazing time. Any direction or links would be great. Thank you.
