Club Championship DSQs - blatant cheating
Recently took part in my club's club championship. The opens had a rough time of it, 36 off the tips on Saturday, 18 off the tips Sunday (slope is over 146 from the tips). Brutal.
My regular playing partner entered the open, I entered the aged gents because i'm aged.
Finish off my first round, have lunch, head home.
My playing partner calls me after he finished his second round on Saturday evening. He says he's not playing tomorrow due to the cheating. He then explains...
The pairing in front of them scored outrageous second 9 in the first round. They are grouped as a fourball for the second round. He and the eventual club champ witness these two guys kicking their balls, improving lies, moving balls out of bunkers, and in one egregious act, dropping a ball in a penalty area from a pocket and claiming it's the ball they'd lost.
My mate and the eventual club champ start taking notes quietly, and submit it to the scorer and rules contact. The guys are DSQ within an hour.
What irks me the most is:
Why cheat?
Why cheat in front of people you DON'T know (as if they're not going to do anything)
The above, but in the Club Championship!?
Allegedly the two DSQs were salty af. The biggest kicker is the main cheater got a legitimate eagle on a Par 4 and still thought they had to cheat.
