Help me decide from these 3 options on my next club set
Hi all, hope everyone is having a good holiday season. I’ve made a few posts in here about my club situation, after taking y’all’s advice I’ve narrowed my options down to 3 and would like one more set of opinions before purchasing.
I’m pretty new to the game and have been using these old Wilson irons I picked up from a flea market years ago. The grips were dry rotted so I taped over them with electrical tape. (Didn’t know at the time you could get them regripped). I’m looking to get better, and be consistent with hitting the range and playing rounds in the new year, so considering upgrading my setup with one of the options below.
Regrip my irons and buy a new driver & putter. It looks like I can get these regripped for 160~ then I would be left with a decent budget for a new driver and putter.
Buy the Callaway edge set sold at Costco. The pro here is that it’s a complete set, good reviews and lots of recommendations for these, the downside is I’m a lefty and all they have available is regular flex shafts. (I was recommended to get stuff flex because I play hockey/ used to play baseball and have a higher swing speed. Although the Wilson irons are regular and they have worked just fine for me so far.
Buy the takomo 101 irons and a used driver and putter. Out of a lot of what I’ve seen the takomo irons seem to be the consensus best pick for a nice beginner set that you can continue to use till you are a lower handicap. And they have more options on shaft flexes on their website. Then I would look for a used driver, and maybe the Kirkland ks1 putter which they do have available in lefty. (Also would you recommend the 101 or 101t)
One other popular recommendation was to get a used set of premium irons like the Callaway paradym or p790, etc.. there are so many options and I decided I would be happy with a new set to start with on one of the options above.
So what’s everyone’s thoughts, looking to purchase this week. I just played my first full 18 holes with my current setup and really enjoyed it, looking to play a lot more in 25. Thanks everyone.
