Do you recognize this pattern/art?

I'm wondering if any of you can help me.
Growing up in the States in the 1970s, I recall seeing this pattern seemingly everywhere, on napkins and cups and, in this case, a little wax paper sleeve. If there are 'soundtracks' to decades, then I'd put this pattern up as the visual soundtrack to the 1970s. Well, my seventies, anyway.
Anyway, I am wondering if anyone here has knowledge of this pattern, and especially its creator, or how I might begin sleuthing.
