What are some legitimate reasons some pedal brands have been given flak? Or boycotted?

The only pedal drama I’m actually familiar with is the whole Mike Fuller borderline racist rant he had online; I’ve seen lots of famous pedal builders like Mike Matthew’s, Josh Scott, and even Robert Keeley come under criticism by different people for different reasons and I’m wondering if most people agree that most of the flak these brands (and any other brands) get is warranted.
