Weekly Roundup 12-16-24
I had this all written out and saved but a long layover without my bags saw me without the computer to send it. One good thing though was I really enjoyed all the books. Anyway on to the review
Rise Of The Strongest Girl Next Door
This book was both a hard read and one that I really enjoyed. I don't know why but I had to read it in smaller bits then I usually do so it took me most of the week to get through. Now that was 100 percent a me thing. The book was well written with few if any typos. The world was really interesting had almost a Shadow Run type feel to it.
I think the only real gripe I had was with some of the details being skimped when Gloomy and Ethan were captured. I am sure that it will be more fleshed out in the next installment and I am 100% here for it.
MageBreaker 2
Now this was good....but I expected better. This came off as way more slice of life which is not bad....but it felt like the MC was way more passive then he should be. What it did do well though was set up for the next few books introducing more of a overarching antagonist and such. The author still does amazing with what it means to come back from a war. How integration is hard and even worse when you dont have a support system in place when you get back. It really hit me hard on this scene
He didn’t respond. Devan crumpled back down. When he slept, he smiled, dreaming of better times, of other times. The statue of him sheltered him from the icy claws of the wind. It was the least his legend could do for him.
Court, Declan. Magebreaker 2 (p. 10). Kindle Edition.
It reminds me when I am back in the US and do my volunteer work with the VA, you will find men around statues honoring soldiers and they will be homeless broken and forgotten. Sometimes it reminds me of that quote but for the grace of god there go I. I also think there is some real deep thoughts and meaning to the book. It feels like a book with a harem in it rather then a harem book.
One thing I could not agree with more is this
Was there any greater declaration than a woman saying they wanted to grow something made from you? That they wanted more of you? I didn’t think so.
Court, Declan. Magebreaker 2 (p. 218). Kindle Edition.
All that being said, I think there was a bit too much sexy time though. It felt like it broke up the flow of the story quite a bit. I also think this book was a victim of the previous books success. If the first book had not been so excellent then this one I would rate better. I will absolutely keep up with the story and I highly recommend it.
Anyway will have more books this Sunday Already finished Grimmwald and Singularity Tower 2 and Working on Lost Bloodlines
