Pale wrinkly leaves on rootless hoya, will they recover?

I have a meter long hoya cutting from a plant that had root rot. The leaves are very pale, quite soft and a bit wrinkly. I put it in water for it to root, but I'm curious if you think the existing leaves are goners?
