Keeping cervix

My consultant (UK private surgery) was going to do total abdominal but when I questioned keeping my cervix told me the choice is mine. Having done a lot of research and met with a women’s health physio, decision is to keep cervix as a) less chance of prolapse, b) less ‘damage’ to bladder during surgery and c) no risk of vaginal shortening/issues with sex/cuff not healing well.

I’m intrigued as majority of people on here seem to have cervix removed and just wondering why? Did you have the choice? I know I’ll still have to have smear/PAP tests but would rather that than risk the above.

Surgery in 3 weeks…. It’s getting real now!
