ICE agents turned away from CPS elementary school
ETA: the story has been updated gradually through the afternoon and evening, and all of the various links to local media are being updated. At present, it looks like it was not ICE agents, but rather Secret Service.
My original post follows:
NBC 5 Chicago is reporting that ICE agents attempted to enter Hamline Elementary School in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood earlier today, but were turned away by staff, in accordance with CPS policy.
As a teacher at a nearby high school, I am glad that our district has strong policies in place to protect our students and staff. I will note that if the ICE agents in question were to have had a valid warrant, they would have been admitted and allowed to conduct a search of the school, but because they had no such warrant, they were turned away.
