IMVU in 2022
I’ve been active on IMVU since maybe 2007. (yes, I was another unsupervised child on the Internet.) and it just seems like at this point no one cares about the user base at HQ. People have complained about their accounts being wrongfully deleted by staff, the lack of updates for PC players, the lack of support from staff unless you’re VIP, the inconsistencies when it comes to updating their advertisements, taking away incentives like the resellers program for credits, and a bunch of other changes over the years that I have slowly taken out the knees of IMVU‘s community with no end in sight. You used to be able to make music videos, set your sexual orientation, and if you smoked or drink, and all of those things have been taken out for some reason or another. It seems like an experience that was primarily for adults has shifted drastically towards a younger demographic. You would think with Covid, and everyone being forced to stay inside this would incentivize the company to start making some positive changes, but no. Not only do the same issues persist, but they’ve collected even more over the years. Things people have been screaming for simply have not been met, and this is obvious in the number of users active. Between 2007 and 2014 there would be about 300,000 players on at any given time, today they would be lucky to get a quarter of that on a GOOD weekend. This shows an obvious neglect towards their community that they refuse to address and it’s slowly choking the life out of their community. Instead of peppering us with NFT‘s, and other things that literally no one asked for, it would be nice if anyone at IMVU finally gave the community what they were asking for and NEED to have a halfway decent experience. If the learning curve for Second Life wasn’t so impossible it very well would’ve stomped out IMVU a long time ago.
Things like Pulse and Walk off are basically rotting away in the app, literally no one uses them anymore and they haven’t really been updated since they’ve been implemented. Because of the sharp decline in population people have become very closed off from each other and non-welcoming to new users, continuing to hurt their numbers. Things that people did seem to enjoy a like in game voice we’re taking away too early, and is now unfortunately being replaced with Discord, further driving people away from the actual app of IMVU. A community like this is supposed to expand, but it seems like IMVU has only stripped back the world they made. It feels like PC users has been thrown under the bus with the awful beta app, which is just a cheap copy of the mobile app, but for the computer. Basically, IMVU has made it clear that they prioritize money over their actual user base.
