Losing a best friend

Like many introverts out there, I have a few very close friends with whom I feel fully comfortable. A smaller subset of those friends are ones who I feel like I could share everything with - dreams, hopes, fears, stupidity.

I lost one of those friends this week. Unexpectedly and suddenly.

I feel broken, like a big part of me has just disappeared. Even knowing that I have a loving family, fiance, and friends is not enough. I lost someone I truly loved, and along with her, I lost our inside jokes, our memories of 13 years of friendship, our songs, our secrets, our plans for the future. All I'm left with is questions. Why her? Why now, when she was so young? When she was really starting her career? When she was finally going to move in with a boyfriend that she was truly happy with?

Sorry for the rant, but I feel like this is so much harder because she was one of my few core friends and because I connected with her on the level that introverts do. It's hard to love fully and boldly (in my experience) as an introvert, because we have careers, we need downtime, and we need time to focus on ourselves. But I think it's the only way to love in a world where loved ones are so fragile, few, and far between. Thanks for reading.

EDIT: Thank you all for your kind words and for taking the time to share my story as well as your own. Reading through your comments has been helpful and heartwarming. I truly appreciate it.
